Caftan originated as a collaboration between songwriters Cory Kosel and Jake Nice. After bringing bassist Jonathan Bustos and drummer Braden Socia into the mix, the group traveled to Moody TX where they recorded their debut EP Where You Lead You. The band has since performed at breweries, clubs and festivals across the Lone Star State and is stirring up interest around its hometown of Dallas. Rock and roll has always been malleable, shifting and expanding and contracting thru the decades, but rare is the artist who bends and shapes it to their own journey with consistency. Veteran craftsman Kevin Aldridge’s newest full band effort Hotel Satellite accomplishes the task with aplomb while still managing to sound both urgent and necessary.

At its heart is Aldridge’s stalwart Neil Youngian sense of melody combined with Tom Petty’s penchant for simplistic chords and structures, but the band’s sonics are more modern, awash with layers of sound that are at once dreamy, psychedelic, and entirely focused. Sharp turns of phrase punctuate the effervescent harmonies that float on top of the inter loping guitars and shimmering keys on their inaugural single “I Don’t Know Where To Start.” With a “start” this strong, the sky’s the limit.

The group moves fluidly between smoky jazz corners, outlaw-country bars, and late-night soul sets. Every performance re-shapes the lineup: one night it’s a piano trio, another it’s a full-band swing with sax, and violin leads that stretch and breathe. What doesn’t change is the feel—steady pocket, sharp lyricism, and a kind of unhurried cool that invites listeners to lean in.

He would play with numerous lineups before landing on the permanent arrangement giving the band its namesake. The band’s unique sound is driven by Dootson’s crisp vocals. With percussive acoustic guitar, dynamic rhythm section and blasting horns.

Darrin, primarily self-taught, learned some guitar chords at 12, from Dad after being exposed to his Chuck Berry, Ventures and other guitar based records throughout childhood. He got into the Beatles for a minute, then it was onto the hard rock of the day (Zeppelin, Hendrix, Sabbath, Rush, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, UFO, etc.) as well as other blues based rock, before later digging into Delta and Chicago styles and improvisation. After relocating to the Fort Worth area with his family and many years in the budding DFW metal scene, Kobetich has since branched out into acoustic instrumental experimentation, drawing from many styles over the years, including middle eastern, Indian, mountain and bluegrass, to name a few. Notable fingerstyle/flat pick influences are Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, Doc Watson and John Fahey. In more recent years, getting involved in live theater production at mostly Hip Pocket Theatre, but also Jubilee and Amphibian, has enabled him to draw from all of these influences as the live soundtrack to these shows. He also travels the country, playing mostly in quirky desert and mountain towns.​

Classic Sounds and Familiar Tunes

Living now in Granbury, Joe grew up in North Fort Worth. After a failed professional career, Savage started earning his living making music. Over the last decade Joe has released 6 full length studio albums and plays weekly around Texas. His classic voice and thoughtful lyrics give his music an appeal that gets better with each listen. At live shows, Joe has the ability to mix his original tunes with the familiar covers from the outlaw, classic and 90s era of country music in such a way it's hard to tell which songs he actually wrote. Savage puts his own spin on many classic songs while maintaining the familiarity so many listeners enjoy much like the way Jose Feliciano was able to do in his time. Savage seems to personify a mixture of that soulful baritone of Johnny Cash, the wit of John Prine and the wispy vocals of Kris Isaac.

Fort Worth based pop-punk band born out of friendship, late-night writing sessions, and a mutual need to make something meaningful, loud, and proud.

Fronted by Stephanie Benjamin (vocals & songwriter), joined by Kevin Wellendorf (guitar & songwriter), Jordan Tucker (bass), and Matt Mabe (drums), we’re a highly collaborative mix of old friendships, uncontrollable energy, bonded by just the right timing, sometimes brutal honesty, and a shared love of those feelings that just hit you right in the gut.

Our influences have a wide range, so be prepared to hear a variety of sound stemming from Alvvays, The Ramones, and Courtney Barnett to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Turnstile, QOTSA, Arctic Monkeys, Green Day, and even Sex Bob-Omb (yeah, they definitely count). We welcome the grit of the punk, the tangled moments of dreamy reflection with a little chaos and a little confession.

With three members who’ve long been part of Fort Worth’s local music scene, and one voice still finding her place in it, Heavy Petal feels like the start of something rare: a powerhouse of musicians backed by the lyrical weight of raw experience and the quiet bloom of starting over.

It’s messy, loud, honest, at times hauntingly beautiful — and that’s exactly how we like it.
